Last working day for The Studio Loft @ Devonshire

It didn't hit me till the last client left today. As i waved bye bye, i realised hey! this will be the last client at Devonshire Road for The Studio Loft. Kind of sad after we've been here for 2 years. But the rental increase is really too high for me to continue operating from these premises, so we have to move.

Monday will be packing day, Tuesday the movers will bring our stuff to Pagoda Street and then Wednesday will be the headache of unpacking everything. Gosh, i am dreading this. How i wish i am rich enough to stay in a big house with a photo studio built in, no more being at the mercy of greedy landlords and real estate agents. *Dream dream dream*

Here are some photos of the place in all it's pre-move messy glory!

Citrus Yoghurt Muffins

Last year, by some freak coincidence, i found out that a fellow forum mate on a motherhood forum i have been actively a part of is actually my secondary school mate! We have not met for 17 years since we left school and we are both mothers now to sons about the same age :)

Her name is Miaofang aka Curly and this is a superb recipe i got from her.

Citrus Yoghurt Muffins

200g self raising flour
175g caster sugar
1 tbsp each of grated lemon, orange and lime zest
225ml fat-free plain yoghurt
115ml sunflower oil
1 lightly beaten egg

1. Preheat oven to 200C.
2. Combine flour, sugar, all zests, in a medium bowl. In a large bowl, beat yoghurt, oil and egg until well blended. Add flour mixture, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
3. Spoon batter into muffin cups. Bake for 20 mins. Remove tin from oven and cool for 5 mins. Then eat!

NOTE: i didn't have oil so i used melted butter instead. the batter was also very thick, not sure if i got the right kind of yoghurt. so i added a bit of milk to the batter. i baked at 165C for 15mins. oh and instead of caster sugar, i used organic brown sugar.

only after shooting the shot below did i realise what a horrible hand model i make :s

Bolinhos de Maryann

Inspired by the other mummy bloggers who have been cooking up a storm of late, i decided to try a dish from Mei, an ex-client who lives in France with a chef hubby and a cute daughter!

She calls it Bolinhos de Bacalhau (codfish balls) but because i was too lazy to go buy fresh cod, i used canned tuna instead kekeke and she said i couldn't call them Bolinhos de Bacalhau anymore so here i present to you, Bolinhos de Maryann!

You can get the original recipe from Mei's blog, below is my "anyhow hantum" version :p

Bolinhos de Maryann (tuna balls)

1 can of tuna
2-3 potatoes
2 eggs
1 small onion
chopped parsley / peppercorns

1. Fry onions and peppercorns with tuna
2. In the meantime, boil potatoes till soft
3. Mash with fork
4. Mix the tuna with the potatoes, 2 beaten eggs, chopped parsley & a pinch of salt
5. Set mixture aside for 30 mins
6. Shape into balls & fry till golden brown.

Serve with an ice cold beer.

Note: i found the mixture a bit wet to shape so maybe i put in too little tuna or should i reduce the egg to just 1? help me analyse Mei! ;)

Kayden's Passport

At long last we are planning our first family holiday abroad! Although it will just be nearby Bintan, the little boy still needs his passport :p So we dragged him down to the studio with me this morning when i went to work and took a few mug shots of him.

No prizes for guessing which one we used in the end :)

The below is my favourite but too bad his eyes are gone when he smiles so we can't use it :S

The dreaded glucose test

here I am at the hospital (surfing on wireless with my new toy, the iPhone - a gift from the hubby) for the glucose test. it's actually a blood and urine test for gestational diabetes. How I dread this as it's quite a lengthy procedure. Starts the night before, you have to fast and not drink anything from midnight onwards. then once you get here, they give you a bottle for your first urine sample. hmmm, having not drunk anything since 10pm last night, this was a bit tricky. I managed to get a trickle ;p after discreetly passing the lab nurse my sample, she made me sit down and the first of 3 blood samples was drawn from my left arm. I always look away but today I decided to have a peek. they now have some outer plastic cover over the needle and syringe so I can't see the blood being drawn... how clever. next, I was given a bottle of a very sweet orange drink which I was to consume in front of her. this was chicken feet to me as I have a sweet tooth. not the case for the lady who was before me. she was still struggling through the first half of her drink as I reach the end of mine ;) nurse named me "the champion for today"! then she gave me my "prize", two more plastic containers for the next two urine samples :( one to be given an hour after the orange drink (that's why I am sitting around now writing this entry till the hour has passed) and the other another hour later after she has drawn the second blood sample.

Yawn!!! it's almost time for the second urine sample, will update on the results later.

<<< 3hours later >>>

Ok results are within the normal range and i do not have gestational diabetes so whoo hoo! i don't have to watch my diet :p

#2 is now almost 2kg at 31weeks, looks like another big one! his head is up though, hope he will turn in the next few weeks. *fingers crossed*
